Welcome
I’m John Ferrera, your neighbor and candidate for the Yolo County Board of Supervisors, 4th District. Thank you for taking the time to learn about me and my priorities for protecting our county’s rich resources and quality of life. With your help, I will focus my energy and experience to capitalize on our county’s strengths. We have a prime agricultural region with a highly educated work force that cares deeply about enhancing our physical and cultural environment. If we plan correctly and work collaboratively, I know we can meet the dual goals of growing the economy and protecting the environment – using our prosperity to protect our valuable land and create more opportunities for everyone in our community to grow and thrive. Let me tell you a little about myself. Almost nine years ago, my wife Anna and I returned to Davis where we wanted to raise our children, Jake and Monica. Familiar with Davis’ wonderful sense of community and highest quality schools, we joined Anna’s brother Carlos and his wife, Toni, who have lived here since the late eighties. Soon “Mom” Frances moved to join us here, spend more time with her grandchildren and allow us to play a greater role in her care. Anna and I were both raised by families who participated in their communities and believed in leaving the world a better place. Together, we’ve worked hard to contribute to Davis and Yolo County in many ways, including coaching youth soccer and baseball, volunteering at Pioneer Elementary and Harper Middle Schools, PTA, and school site and modernization committees. Our family has walked door-to-door in Davis in every election since we moved here to advocate for local and statewide candidates and priorities - most recently for Measures P and Q to protect and improve our school and library services. I have been honored to serve on the Yolo County Library Advisory Board, appointed by Supervisor David Rosenberg in 2002 and again by Supervisor Mariko Yamada in 2006, to ensure that our local dollars are used wisely and to fight for expanded library services for south and east Davis. I am also proud of my service as a member of the Yolo County Democratic Central Committee and a state convention delegate. I have been fortunate to serve as a senior advisor and legislative aide for two Members of Congress in Washington, DC, two California Governors and two Members of the California Legislature in Sacramento. I have successfully fought for a transportation system with responsible alternatives, a cleaner environment, smarter long-term planning for growth and economic development. My two decades of experience in these areas and background in budget policy will help me foster fiscal discipline on the Board while fighting to support the services our people need. I have been a personal and professional defender of sustainable economic growth to provide quality jobs while protecting prime habitat and agricultural land. If given the opportunity to serve as your Supervisor, I will listen to, and speak for, parents, seniors, students, small business owners and average members of our community, and welcome the input and unique passion and knowledge of our many community activists. Most importantly, I will seek to learn through collaboration with you, my colleagues on the Board, Davis’ City Council and representatives of the University to foster a diversity of discussion and respect opposing points of view. We are always stronger in cooperation than in conflict. Please take some time to look around the site and learn more about my campaign, my supporters and issues of importance to Yolo County. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to email me and I will respond to you as soon as possible. I look forward to getting to know you over the coming months and years as we work together to keep our county the extraordinary community that it is. All the very best, |
