Ferrera files Candidacy Papers

Ferrera files for 4th District Supervisor's seat, has wide community support.

On this sunny morning, February 29, 2008, John Ferrera, accompanied by his wife Anna, arrived at the Yolo County Clerk of Elections office to formally file papers to be a candidate for 4th District Supervisor.

"I know its a little corny, but we're taking a leap; 'Leaping into leadership' on Leap Year Day. I like the symbolism, " said Ferrera. "I'm excited to take responsibility for making tough decisions and working to leave things better than we found them. I've committed myself to public service for 22 years working on the issues we face here in Yolo County -- creating a long-term vision for preserving and enhancing our environment, supporting agriculture and the economy, and providing for those who need our help. Now, I am committing myself to four years of service to the residents of the 4th district, and Yolo County as a whole. It seems appropriate to do it on a day that happens once every four years."

"It only took one short family meeting to discuss John's becoming a candidate," remarked Anna. "We're all behind John 100 percent - both John and I grew up in families that were active in our communities - and on almost every campaign in Davis since moving here - most recently Measures Q and P - the kids are just glad they are working for their Dad this time.

The filing included Ferrera's official 400 word candidate statement and his nominating signatures from forty residents of Yolo County District Four who declare that John's abilities and experience will allow him to serve as a successful member of the Board of Supervisors. Both documents can be found at ferreraforsupervisor.com.

"The nomination documents for the Board of Supervisors add a very personal touch to the process." said Marty West, former School Board President and one of Ferrera's nominators. "Each person can ONLY sign for one candidate. So, each person is saying, 'I know John is the best qualified person for the position of Supervisor.'"
